Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 2026
The short version
- You can use the quiz, simulations and mentors without an account.
- We don't sell your information or use it for advertising.
- We don't use your information to train AI models.
- Our analytics don't know your name or email.
- You can ask us to delete your data at any time.
1. Who we are
Career Compass (mycareercompass.fit) is an independent career-exploration tool built and operated by Khasanjon B., a university undergraduate. It is not run by any university. Questions about this policy go to support@mycareercompass.fit.
2. What we collect
If you use the site without an account, your quiz results, progress and settings are saved in your own browser (local storage), not on our servers — apart from anonymous pilot survey answers (see section 7). We also create a random identifier in your browser so we can tell repeat visits apart and apply fair-use limits. It isn't linked to your name.
If you create an account, we store:
- Your name and email address, and a password (stored only as a secure hash by our sign-in provider) — or your name and email from Google if you sign in with Google
- Your quiz results, simulation scores, career types you've explored, onboarding answers and visit streak
- Your conversations with AI mentors, so you can pick up where you left off
- Whether you opted in to a university pilot evaluation, and which pilot link you arrived through
Other things you choose to send us:
- Waitlist: your email address and which page you signed up on
- Reviews: the name, affiliation, rating and review text you submit, and whether you agreed to it being published. Nothing is published without your permission and our approval.
- Payments: handled entirely by Stripe. Your card details go straight to Stripe and never reach our servers. We keep your email, a Stripe customer reference and whether your subscription is active.
- Job search: the job title and location you search for
Collected automatically: pages you visit and features you use (see Analytics below), and your IP address, which we use to prevent abuse and to apply daily usage limits. It is kept with those usage counters for up to 60 days.
We don't collect your phone number, home address, date of birth, student ID, grades, or any government identifier.
3. How we use it
- To run the product: save your progress, show your results, continue your mentor conversations, and give feedback on written simulation answers
- To keep it working and affordable: fix bugs, prevent abuse, and cap daily AI use
- To improve it: counts such as how many people finish a simulation or where they stop
- To reply to you, and to email waitlist members about launches. Every such email lets you unsubscribe.
- To process subscriptions
We don't sell your personal information, share it for advertising, or use it to build advertising profiles.
4. AI mentors and simulation feedback
When you message an AI mentor or submit a written simulation answer, the text you wrote is sent to our AI provider, Alibaba Cloud Model Studio, to generate a reply or feedback. We use a workspace located in the United States (Virginia). We send only the text needed for the reply — never your name, email address or account details.
Alibaba Cloud states that it does not use customer data to train its models. It does store records of these requests as required by law. Please don't type personal details (such as your full name, phone number or health information) into a mentor chat or answer box — the tool doesn't need them.
5. Analytics
We use PostHog(United States) to understand how the product is used — for example, which pages are visited and which simulations are finished. It stores a random identifier in your browser. We don't connect this to your name or email. We also use Vercel Web Analytics, which counts visits without cookies.
6. Who processes your data for us
We use a small number of service providers, only to run the product:
- Vercel — hosts the website
- Supabase — database and sign-in
- Alibaba Cloud Model Studio (US) — AI mentor replies and feedback
- PostHog — product analytics
- Stripe — payments
- Google — only if you choose to sign in with Google
- Formspree — notifies us when someone joins the waitlist
- Adzuna — returns job listings for the search terms you enter (sent from our server, without your identity)
We may also disclose information if the law requires it. If Career Compass is ever sold or merged, this policy would continue to apply to information collected under it, and we would tell you before it changed.
7. Students and universities
When a university runs a pilot of Career Compass, we don't receive student records from the university, and we don't give the university any individual student's answers, results or conversations. Pilot evaluations use only anonymous survey responses, reported as group totals. The details, including exactly what a pilot measures, are on the participant information page.
8. How long we keep it
- Account data and mentor conversations: for as long as you have an account, or until you ask us to delete them
- Waitlist emails: until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you
- Daily usage counters: up to 60 days
- Anonymous pilot survey answers:until the pilot's summary is complete, and no longer than one year after the pilot ends
- Data in your browser: until you clear your browser data
9. Your choices and rights
- Delete your mentor history yourself at any time from the mentors page.
- Ask for a copy of the data tied to your account.
- Correct anything that's wrong.
- Delete your accountand its data — we'll do this within 30 days of your request.
- Withdraw from a pilot evaluation at any time.
Email support@mycareercompass.fitfrom the address on your account. We won't treat you differently for making any of these requests.
10. Children
Career Compass is meant for high school and university students and adults. It is not directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
11. Security
Data is encrypted in transit. Account data is protected by access rules so users can only reach their own records, and our AI and database keys are kept on the server, never in your browser. No system is perfectly secure; if we learn of a breach affecting your information, we'll tell you.
12. Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your information, we'll update this page and its date. For significant changes, we'll also tell account holders by email before the change takes effect.
